James Pouillon, the anti-choice activist who was shot and killed in Michigan on Friday, is being lauded as a martyr by the chief wingnut of the anti-abortion movement. Operation Rescue founder Randall Terry called a press conference late Friday to say that Pouillon was a hero, and that God would grant him a martyr’s crown. Another man named Mike Fuoss was also killed on Friday. According to RH Reality Check, Harlan Drake, the man who is suspected of killing Pouillon and Fuoss, attempted to commit suicide in jail over the weekend. Although Randall Terry and other anti-choicers are trying to claim that the shootings were motivated by Drake’s militant opposition to the anti-abortion movement, the police have yet to explain what Drake’s motivations were. Police said little about what might have led Drake — a truck driver who mostly lived on the road in his cab and had family in the area — to kill, other than that he had a grudge against Fuoss and Howe and didn’t like Pouillon’s graphic anti-abortion signs. [Read more...]
