What Drives My Activism?

Today is a bittersweet day for me – it is both my birthday, as well as the anniversary of my grandfather’s death.  This year marks the tenth year since his passing.

My grandfather was a very special man.  Family was everything to him, and you could always count on my grandpa to come to your rescue if you needed it.  My grandpa had a beautiful singing voice, he raised horses, and he loved ice cream.  I used to go fishing with my grandfather, and we even took a cross-country trip together when I was twelve.  My grandpa was one of my heroes.

One thing that my grandfather taught me is that no one can steal from you if you willingly give everything you have to others.  This level of compassion and generosity has stayed with me, and it is one of the central motivations behind my activism.  I don’t have a lot of money, but I do have computer skills, organizing abilities, and a passion for serving others.  If my activism is motivated by one thing at all, it is motivated by love.
