Get Ready to Rumble with Choice USA

If you live in DC, you don’t want to miss tomorrow’s fabulous event, hosted by Choice USA.  We Are the Champions is an exciting debate between pro-choice activists, including Feminists for Choice’s very own Andrew Jenkins. Some of the other speakers scheduled to participate in the debate are Amy Richards (author of Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future) and the fabulous Shelby Knox (blogger, sexual health activist, and Tweeter extraordinaire). The event is on January 20th, from 7:00-9:00 PM at the Center for American Progress. And best of all . . . it’s free! For more event info, and to RSVP, check out the We Are the Champions event page.

Can I just gush for a minute and say how proud I am of my good friend AJ?  I remember when he barely even knew who Betty Friedan was, and now he’s all grown up and repping Choice USA as a result of all the kick ass campus activism he’s been up to at Cal State Long Beach.  We’re so lucky to have AJ on our writing team. OK . . . now back to talking up tonight’s amazing event!

As the 38th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision approaches, young people are examining our place within and our vision for the reproductive justice movement. Choice USA and Campus Progress are hosting an awesome spin on the traditional panel. They are bringing together six young leaders from the reproductive justice movement – including Shelby Knox, Miriam Madrid, Amy Richards, Aimee Thorne-Thomsen, Andrew Jenkins and a very special guest. These leaders will go head-to-head (with words) in three rounds to discuss youth activism and advocacy, abortion access and funding, the 2012 elections and more. Kierra Johnson, Executive Director of Choice USA, will be the referee.

You can follow Choice USA on Facebook. If you’re unable to make it to the event in DC, follow the conversation on Twitter by searching for the #rjchampions hashtag. So check it out, ya’ll!
