1198-1-1712bLast month I told you about Obama’s nominee for the Office of Legal Counsel, Dawn Johnsen. Her nomination has been held up in the Senate Judicial Committee, even though she is highly qualified for the position (and staunchly pro-choice). She’s not the only judicial nominee in this boat. Several other judicial appointments have been languishing in the Senate, including Thomas E. Perez, Obama’s nominee for the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division.

Thomas Perez served in the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division under President Clinton. The division lost most of its clout during the Bush administration, because Bush was apparently allergic to the concept of civil liberties. However, the current US Attorney General Eric Holder is fully committed to getting the Civil Rights Division back on track. target=”_blank”>Perez is more than qualified to head the division. He has spent most of his government career enforcing anti-discrimination laws. He is also a law professor at the University of Maryland.

Send an e-mail to Harry Reid, urging him to push for a vote to approve Perez’s nomination. It will literally only take a few minutes of your time.
