Caitlin Safford
Caitlin Safford diligently works for NARAL Pro-Choice Washington in Seattle, where she exclusively works to implement comprehensive sex education into Washington school districts. She graduated as a proud Husky from the University of Washington in three years with a B.A. in Political Science. In her free time, she enjoys arguing about politics, baking and reading vast quantities of books. The ideas surrounding women’s rights, including the right to choose, is always at the forefront of her mind.
What is feminism?
To me, feminism is the act of any woman rising to fight for her right to be who she is, without disparagement and disgust from men and society. If a woman is fighting to be a homemaker, that is her right just as much as it is the right of a woman to fight to be the leader of an organization or company. It’s about fighting to show the world that every woman is free to be who she wants to be.
What is choice?
Choice is just that. It is the ability to choose what happens in your life, to make a conscious decision about how you want your life to go. Choices range from small every day things, such as selecting one meal over another, to huge decisions that will affect the outcome of your life, whether it is choosing to take on a new career or to carry out an unintended pregnancy. No one else can understand one woman’s difficulty in deciding her fate but she should at least have every option available to her to carry out her life as she wants it. She should get that choice.
